This July WebAlive was thrilled to be included as an exhibitor at the Online Retailer Conference & eCommerce Expo in Sydney. With the expo featuring international keynote speakers, panel discussions, hands-on displays and demonstrations of new innovative technology, we knew this one was not to be missed.

While WebAlive is primarily based in Melbourne we have loyal clients all over Australia and this expo was a wonderful opportunity to connect with current and future clients local to Sydney, and those who travelled from other states and cities to explore the latest offerings in the eCommerce world.

The Online Retailer Expo gave all of the exhibitors and their current and future customers a chance to mingle and provided a valuable opportunity to network with a huge variety of organisations including industry leaders like Startrack, Netsuite, Alibaba and Australia Post who all had stood.

Smaller boutique agencies and service providers were also in attendance, capitalising on the opportunity to meet new clients and fellow innovators in the field, with a focus on networking and collaboration in this vibrant, exciting arena.

With a backdrop of the beautiful historic Royal Hall of Industries and Hordern Pavilion in the Centennial Parklands of Sydney, visitors and exhibitors alike were treated to a variety of exciting events over the two days.

Attractions included retail technology seminars on topics like optimisation, innovation, advertising and the importance of creating exceptional UX.

Mini events and competitions were put on by some of the industry’s big players and there was even a special area of the expo titled ‘The Future Store’ dedicated as an experimental space where ‘online and offline technology converge’.

Along with a fantastic display of 3D printers and scanners, The Future Store had a number of virtual features, like a touch display virtual showroom where customers could select products and customise them, a virtual shelf which used ‘intelligent shelf labels’ to maximise promotion opportunities and even virtual reality headsets which may one day be a powerful way for customers to interact with products remotely.

Headlining the conference was Andy Dunn, the founder and CEO of Bonobos Inc speaking on the art of creating a lasting brand in the constantly changing fast paced world of the internet, Aaron Smith the director of technology for Nordstrom covering the advantages of a superior user experience to acquire sales and Wellington Fonseca from the Gilt group speaking on multi-channel customer loyalty and engagement helping to strengthen the relationship between brand and customer.

Altogether our two days in Sydney at the Online Retailer expo were hugely enjoyable and very rewarding, giving us the opportunity to connect with colleagues and customers from near and far.

We’re excited to be a part of the Sydney web design community and are even working on plans for a permanent local base for web design and development in the beautiful harbour-side city as well as our original digital agency in Melbourne.
